Urns & Cremation Containers
Every cremation requires two different types of containers:
- A cremation container, which holds and protects the deceased during cremation
- An
urn or temporary container, which holds the cremated remains afterward
According to the Texas Health & Safety Code (Sec. A716.151), human remains must be placed in a cremation container that:
- Is made of combustible materials suitable for cremation
- Provides a complete covering of the body
- Is resistant to leakage or spillage
- Is rigid for easy handling
- Protects the health and safety of crematory personnel
Honest Cremation includes a minimum alternative cremation container with every package. Each package also includes either a temporary container or an urn, depending on the package selected.
Cremation Containers
Minimum Alternative Container
A minimum alternative container is a rigid cardboard container designed specifically for cremation. It meets Texas requirements while providing the simplest and most affordable option.
A minimum cardboard alternative container is included with every Honest Cremation package.
Upgraded Cremation Containers
Families may choose to upgrade to another cremation container when available. Upgraded options may include an interior lining, fabric covering, or a more finished appearance.
An upgraded container may be appropriate when a private identification viewing is selected. Availability and suitability depend on the condition of the deceased and the arrangements chosen.
Urns for Cremated Remains
After cremation, the cremated remains are placed into the container or urn included with the selected package.
Basic Package
The Basic Package includes a temporary container for the cremated remains. Families may select and purchase another urn during online arrangements.
Priority Package
The Priority Package includes a scattering urn or eligible veteran urn.
Premium Package
The Premium Package includes a permanent urn valued up to $195, along with three standard lines of engraving.
Additional Urns and Keepsakes
Families may purchase additional merchandise during online arrangements, including:
- Permanent urns
- Scattering urns
- Keepsake urns
- Cremation jewelry
- Veteran urns and flag cases
- Personalized and engraved urns
When multiple family members would like to receive a portion of the cremated remains, keepsake containers may be purchased or provided by the family. Additional placement charges may apply.
Choosing an Urn
The right urn depends on what the family plans to do with the cremated remains. Some urns are intended for display, while others are designed for scattering, burial, placement in a cemetery niche, or sharing among family members.
